Buying Lego in Ireland

Charity shop haul

My mother of all people found me a bag of assorted, heavily smashed sets, in a SVdP charity shop yesterday, consisting of most of the parts for:

8189 magma mech
8227 dragon dueller
7685 dozer
3179 repair truck
7236 police car

and a range of bits and pieces from other sets such as parts that are only in 8196 Chopper Jump and so on.

I do have to wonder what kid / AFOL tired of sets that quickly, seeing as they're mostly 2010, or was that badly behaved Eye-wink

Anyone else got a decent charity haul? I also got the previous fire boat minus about ten parts from the same shop a year or so ago.

Adverts.ie

Yet another local source for Lego is www.adverts.ie These are private sales, a bit like a mini-ebay 'buy it now' style. There is a mix of lots on here with varying quality. Obviously you'd need to compare to bricklink but postage might not be an issue.

John Lewis Lego

I've just noticed that the UK department store John Lewis is shipping internationally recently. They have a decent Lego selection although not everything is available. While there is a shipping charge if you go to the John lewis seite via Fatcheese.ie you will evetually get a 10% rebate on purchases.

Just another option for that elusive set.

Series 5 minifigures now available

Toymaster in Dun Laoighaire shopping centre has the series 5 minifigs in stock. Of the 6 acquired we picked up two sherlock holmes type detectives. At least there was an eskimo in the mix.

Summer 2011 star wars sets in Argos catalogue

The new Argos catalogue was out Saturday. No obvious deals for early birds this time round. New star wars sets are listed (at marginally higher prices than Smyths online but Smyths don't have the sets on shelves yet at my local store)

Pixmania

Just became aware that Pixmania.ie sell Lego into Ireland. While delivery costs seem to be higher than for LS@H this might be a useful option for discontinued sets especially exclusives that might cost more to ship via Bricklink. 3% rebate and coupons also available via fatcheese.ie. Don't know if anyone here has used it, I haven't.

Alien Conquest

Those of us who were at AFOLcon were treated to Mark Stafford's preview of the new Alien Conquest sets, which are awesome. They are officially available from 1st June.

However, a rumour then emerged that Toys'R'Us already had them on the shelves, so an expedition was formed to seek them out, and we located them in a Manchester branch. I picked up several of the sets.

They may well also be available in the Northern Ireland branches.

James

Pirates of the Carribean

Just a heads up that pricing for PotC Lego is now up on the Smyths website.

Also for comparison, (S@H Ireland) [Amazon.co.uk]
I've included rough euro price for the latter €1 = £0.85 - accounting for VAT/Credit card charge/rate, rounding to nearest Euro.

Queen Anne's Revenge 4195 - €119.99 (€119.99) [£102.99/~€121]
Whitecap Bay 4194 - €89.99 (€89.99) [£71.99/€85]
The London Escape 4193 - €59.99 (€54.99) [£49.99/€59]
The Mill 4183 - €49.99 (€49.99) [£40.99/€48]
The Cannibal Escape 4182 - €31.99 (€31.99) [£30.99/€36]
Isla De Muerta 4181 - €24.99 (€24.99) [£20.99/€25]
Aqua De Vida 4192 - €24.99 (€24.99) [£20.99/€25]
The Captain's Cabin 4191 - €12.99 (€12.99) [£10.49/€12]

In summary at full initial prices, Smyths are a good buy for Cannibal Escape and about the same as Amazon on the others.

Series 5

Hello People,

This is really premature as series 4 has only been released so I will get to the point.

In series 5 - coming in the summer there is a grenadier guard figure. I am working on a project where I am going to need a few, please keep your eyes out for them when they arrive.

Obviously I will trade or pay for them,

Regards,

Paul.
